In Costa Rica, in the province of Limon exists the district of Talamanca. Located in the south-east of the country, Talamanca represents a truly unique and extraordinary place in terms of its biological, ethnic and cultural diversity. The district forms an integral part of the Caribbean biological corridor home to 9 distinct ecological zones. Additionally, it contains the largest community of indigenous groups in Costa Rica with 34% of the population being Bribri o Cabecar. Unfortunately, the district also has the highest rates of poverty. Therefore, APPTA serves the purpose of strengthening its communities and conserving its natural richness.
