The banana is the principal source of annuity in the region of Talamanca and it is mostly produced in intensive conditions.
However APPTA works, respecting the principles of fair trade, with small producers living in more than 52 Indian communities who produce bananas according to the norms of the organic agriculture.

Until 2002, APPTA was selling its production of fresh bananas in the national market.
Nowadays, responding to an agreement with a Canadian company, the majority of the produced bananas are sold in the form of frozen purée in the international market.

As a result of a new demand, a complete unit of transformation has been installed in APPTA.
A constant work is made on production techniques, transformation, stocking and exportation. The purpose is to improve constantly the quality of our fair/organic banana purée and to satisfy our clients’ demands.

In 2011, the sales of fair/organic banana purée have reached 40,000 tones.

Our fair/organic banana purée is then used to make fair/organics juices and compotes commercialized by Alter Eco (France), La Siembra (Canada), Alce Nero (Italia) and numerous other companies worldwide.

Moreover, our new brand “Caribe Verde” commercialized banana purée and other fruits purées on the Costa Rican market.
