Transformation
The collect, the fermentation and the drying of cacao are stages realized by APPTA. Then, dry cocoa beans are stored in APPTA stock room until exportation. Our visitors can buy cocoa powder on the Talamanca site. Moreover, in partnership with an Israelite company, we produce dehydrated cocoa.
Since 2010, one part of bananas is transformed in puree within APPTA. The other part is sold to Mundimar, a company in Guapiles, which realize the same transformation.


Production and marketing

APPTA develops an intense dynamic of functioning based on training, production and diversification of ecological products, and also the sell on both national and international market. After years of work, we observe high advances and success for APPTA.


Organic products on national market

Talamanca is a wonderful earth which produces a huge quantity of products. Faithful to our entrepreneurial management engagement and thanks to our new market brand “Caribe Verde” we commercialize our series of fruits pulps on national market.


Organic products on international market
The international market represents the majority of APPTA sells. Dried cocoa beans and bananas puree are the most exported products to Northern countries.
APPTA also commercializes others purees and juices (carambola, araza, guava) in small quantities.
All products are organic and certified fairtrade. This is the reflect of the organization’s philosophy to propose the best price to producers, preserving the environment.


Plantations improvement
The improvement of the cocoa production has been realized with CATIE and two indigenous associations, ADITIBRI and ADITICA, through a rehabilitation project of cocoa plantations: “Proyecto Cacao Centroamerica”. This effort recaptures the tradition of teamwork that means 6 persons in rotation, a work of two cycles on each plot to realize rehabilitation, as fighting against diseases (Monilia), pruning and mowing. It practices in 19 communities in Talamanca. Some communities are more than one group and about 70 groups are functioning are the moment. It is hoped that such practices will improve and increase the production by taking advantage of the culture and the tradition of the region.
APPTA owns a clonal garden where genetic amelioration experimentations on cacao tree varieties are made in the purpose to improve the production, preserving the natural genetic.


Sales of cacao tree
A graft area and a tree nursery have been installed in APPTA to produce young cacao tree of 11 different varieties (6 of production and 5 models), fruit of selection led by CATIE. Then, young trees are selling to producers of the region to rehabilitate their plantation.  Our actual capacity is 30 000 of young cacao trees by month.

Since 2012, APPTA has been produced fermentation solution for members.
